If you haven't heard, the USDA has posted the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The updates are extensive.
According to the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the following pieces of information will be applied to the 2015 guidelines:
The former guideline for dietary cholesterol intake was 300mg/ day for a healthy adult. There is no longer an upper limit.

- Recommendation for an upper limit for dietary cholesterol will not be continued.
- Available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol.
- This statement is included in the guidelines, “Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for over consumption.”
- Sugar should be limited to fewer than 10% of total daily calories.
- More consistent associations were seen between added sugars and elevated serum triglycerides, blood pressure, and increased risk of hypertension, stroke, or cardiovascular heart disease. Evidence for associations between added sugars and elevated blood lipids.
- Fat should be consumed predominantly from unsaturated sources and animal fats should be limited.
